Overview
A stunning example of 'satin' or frosted glass featuring a deeply embossed poppy floral motif. This footed sherbet cup showcases the warm, honey-amber 'Topaz' hue that Tiffin was celebrated for during the Art Deco period.
Story
In the 1930s, Ohio was the glassmaking capital of the world. Tiffin created this 'Poppy' pattern to bring luxury to middle-class tables during the Great Depression. It turned a simple dessert into a high-art experience.
Maker / Origin
The Tiffin Glass Company was part of the U.S. Glass Co. conglomerate and became world-renowned for their high-quality 'elegant glass' rather than the cheaper 'Depression glass' found in oatmeal boxes. Their artisans were famous for complex acid-etching and hand-finishing techniques.
Condition & Value
The glass appears to have a consistent satin finish without major 'sick glass' clouding. There is some visible shelf wear on the bottom rim of the foot. Excellent condition for these pieces is vital as the frosted surface shows scratches easily.
