Overview
A beautiful square-sectioned porcelain brush pot (bitong) featuring painted panels of delicate pink roses, rocky outcrops, and butterflies in the Famille Rose palette. The painted scenes are set within a striking, pale green celadon-glazed border with a prominent 'Ge-type' crackle pattern, supported by four L-shaped corner feet.
Story
Created in the early 20th century, this brush pot sat on a scholar's desk, holding the calligraphy brushes that were the lifeblood of Chinese administration, poetry, and art. Its design masterfully bridges two golden eras of Chinese ceramics.
Maker / Origin
While bearing an apocryphal Qianlong reign mark on the base, this piece was crafted by highly skilled, anonymous artisans in Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital of China. During the late Qing and Republic periods, these workshops specialized in reviving imperial-style classics for an appreciative global and domestic market.
Condition & Value
The brush pot appears to be in very good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs to the delicate corners or feet. The crackle is intentional and part of the glaze design. Excellent condition for scholar's objects of this age commands a premium.
