Overview
This is a highly collectible mid-century Japanese tin lithograph wind-up toy featuring a dapper driver in a plaid jacket and straw hat piloting a turquoise convertible. The hood of the car features four clear plastic pistons that move up and down when the clockwork mechanism is wound.
Story
Post-WWII Japan rebuilt its economy by becoming the toy capital of the world. This car captured the 1950s American obsession with road trips, complete with travel decals and a driver ready for adventure.
Maker / Origin
Nomura Toy Company, known by its trademark 'T.N', was one of the most successful and innovative Japanese toy manufacturers of the postwar era. Active from the late 1940s through the 1970s, they were famous for integrating complex mechanical actions, like moving pistons and friction motors, into beautifully lithographed tinplate toys.
Condition & Value
The toy shows moderate wear consistent with age and play, including minor paint scratches, small spots of surface rust on the wheels and chassis, and slight fading. The lithography remains bright, and the plastic pistons appear intact without cracks, which is excellent as these plastic parts are often damaged.
