Overview
A pair of striking ruby red cut-to-clear glass decanters featuring classic Bohemian grape, vine, and leaf motifs. These vessels showcase the traditional 'Egermann' style, where deep red glass is meticulously carved away to reveal the brilliant clear crystal beneath.
Story
In the 1830s, Bohemian chemist Friedrich Egermann perfected a secret recipe using copper ions to stain clear glass a deep, dramatic red. This breakthrough allowed artisans to carve intricate, glowing white-to-clear patterns directly into the glass.
Maker / Origin
While many workshops in the Nový Bor region of Bohemia produced this style, the technique is forever tied to Friedrich Egermann. His innovations transformed Bohemian glass into a global luxury brand, sought after by royalty and elite collectors across Europe and the Americas.
Condition & Value
The decanters appear to be in good vintage condition with vibrant color. The larger decanter has a clear glass stopper that may not be original to the piece, and the smaller decanter has a red stopper; any chips to the rims, stoppers, or base wear will affect the value.
