Overview
This is a hand-knotted Persian Hamadan area rug featuring a vibrant, saturated red field densely packed with geometric medallions and stylized floral motifs. It is framed by a multi-layered geometric border incorporating contrasting cream, deep indigo, and soft blue tones.
Story
Woven in the ancient highlands of western Iran, this rug carries a design language passed down through generations of village weavers. Each geometric motif acts as a stylized representation of local wildflowers and protective talismans.
Maker / Origin
Rather than being produced in a large, centralized factory, Hamadan rugs are traditionally woven by individual artisans and families in dozens of small villages surrounding the ancient city of Hamadan. Each weaver memorizes the patterns, resulting in charming, subtle variations (known as 'abrash') that make every single rug a unique work of folk art.
Condition & Value
The rug appears to be in very good vintage condition with strong, vibrant colors and even pile. The fringe shows some minor, expected wear and shortening, but the selvedges (edges) look intact. Regular professional cleaning and a quality pad will preserve its value for decades.
