Overview
This is a vintage bronze-toned metal transit token featuring a distinctive cut-out center with the monogram 'RIM Inc.' inside a keystone shape. The outer ring is crisply embossed with 'ROCK ISLAND-MOLINE CITY LINES' on one side and 'GOOD FOR ONE FARE' on the reverse.
Story
In the mid-20th century, the Quad Cities hummed with industrial power. This small token was a worker's passport, clinking into fareboxes daily as thousands commuted across the Mississippi River to keep America's manufacturing heart beating.
Maker / Origin
The Rock Island-Moline City Lines operated streetcars and buses connecting the bustling Illinois riverfront communities. These tokens were minted in large quantities by specialized private mints like Meyer & Wenthe of Chicago to prevent counterfeiting and speed up boarding.
Condition & Value
The token appears to be in very good to excellent vintage condition, preserved nicely inside a cardboard coin flip. There is minimal surface wear and a pleasing natural patina. Excellent preservation helps it reach the higher end of the collector market.
