Overview
An exquisite English bone china teacup and saucer featuring a vibrant apple-green band overlaid with intricate, heavy acid-etched gilding. The interior of the cup is a brilliant, clean white, contrasting beautifully with the lavishly gilded handle and rim detailing.
Story
Stoke-on-Trent was the beating heart of the global ceramic industry when this set was made. Cauldon was renowned for supplying elite hotels and royal households with wares that felt like jewelry. This specific pattern, with its hand-painted registry number, was designed to catch the flickering candlelight of a formal Edwardian drawing room.
Maker / Origin
Cauldon Ltd. evolved from the famous J. Ridgway & Co., a pottery dating back to the late 18th century. Operating out of the Cauldon Place Works, the firm built a reputation for producing some of the finest, most translucent bone china in the world. They were highly celebrated at international exhibitions for their mastery of heavy gold gilding and rich ground colors.
Condition & Value
The set appears to be in excellent antique condition with no visible chips, cracks, or crazing. The gilding on the cup's handle and the saucer's rim shows minimal wear, which is rare for pieces of this age. Excellent preservation of the gold gilding helps maintain its value near the higher end of the range.
