Overview
A vibrant hand-loomed silk scarf featuring a rich palette of crimson, burgundy, and burnt orange. It showcases traditional supplementary weft weaving techniques, where intricate geometric patterns are 'floated' over the base fabric to create a textured, jewel-like effect.
Story
Silk weaving in Northeast Thailand is a sacred tradition passed from mother to daughter for centuries. This scarf represents the 'Kit' style, once reserved for ceremonial pillows and royalty. It carries the soul of the village.
Maker / Origin
While the specific weaver is unknown, this piece is a product of the Thai village weaving cooperatives. These groups were famously revitalized in the mid-20th century by Jim Thompson and later supported by Queen Sirikit’s SUPPORT Foundation to preserve ancient silk-rearing and dyeing techniques.
Condition & Value
The silk appears to have excellent luster with no visible staining or sun-fading. The fringe shows some minor tangling and loose threads, which is typical for hand-finished silk. Good condition maintains the mid-range value. Value is driven by the hand-loomed nature and the complexity of the supplementary weft patterns.
