Overview
An extensive, highly collectible assortment of Spode's iconic 'Christmas Tree' pattern dinnerware, complete with original boxes. This festive collection features a variety of serving pieces, hollowware, and specialty items, including a large soup tureen, a tea kettle, a teapot, and tiered serving trays, all adorned with the classic decorated evergreen design.
Story
In 1938, English designer Harold Holdway was asked to draw a Christmas tree for Spode. Having never seen a decorated American-style tree, he famously placed the presents on the branches instead of under them.
Maker / Origin
Founded by Josiah Spode in 1770, the Spode company revolutionized the ceramics industry by perfecting the formula for fine bone china and mastering underglaze blue transfer printing. Based in Stoke-on-Trent, England, Spode became synonymous with British craftsmanship and royal patronage.
Condition & Value
The collection appears to be in excellent, gently used condition with vibrant colors and intact green trim. The presence of original retail boxes suggests careful seasonal storage, which minimizes the risk of crazing and chipping. Excellent condition with original packaging commands a premium in the secondary market.
