Pulled from an Irish peat bog in the 1970s, this Meiji-era Japanese ceramic vase likely arrived in Europe during the Victorian craze for Japonisme before meeting its mysterious waterlogged resting place.

During the Meiji era (1868–1912), Japanese potteries in regions like Satsuma and Kutani transformed centuries-old traditions into a powerhouse export industry.
