Overview
This is a beautifully hand-decorated square porcelain dish featuring a central motif of a stylized phoenix (fenghuang) perched on a green rock surrounded by peony blossoms. The wide, gently flared rim is decorated with a vibrant pink-ground border filled with scrolling floral vines, executed in the classic Famille Rose (Fencai) palette.
Story
Crafted in China's legendary porcelain capital during a period of mid-century revival, this dish features a phoenix and peony. Together, they represent the ultimate traditional pairing of high nobility, prosperity, and feminine grace.
Maker / Origin
The red iron-red seal mark on the base reads 'Jingdezhen Xu Shun Chang Zhi' (Made by Xu Shun Chang of Jingdezhen). This refers to a private workshop or decorator active in the mid-20th century, operating during a transitional era when historic kilns were reorganizing into state-run cooperatives.
Condition & Value
The dish appears to be in very good vintage condition with no visible cracks, chips, or major glaze losses. There is minor wear to the gold gilt rim line, which is typical for a piece of this age. Excellent condition preserves its decorative value.
