Overview
This is a striking vintage pressed glass pedestal candy dish featuring the iconic 'Moon and Stars' pattern, rendered in a vibrant Amberina colorway. The glass transitions beautifully from a fiery ruby red at the top of the lid and bowl to a warm, golden amber-yellow at the pedestal base.
Story
In the 1960s, American living rooms craved bold, saturated color. L.E. Smith answered by reviving a Victorian-era pattern from the 1880s, casting it in a fiery, heat-sensitive glass that seemed to glow from within.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1907 in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, the L.E. Smith Glass Company became legendary for its vibrant colored glasswares. They survived the Great Depression by producing affordable, cheerful kitchenware and went on to dominate the mid-century market with their iconic swung vases and highly collectible 'Moon and Stars' reproduction line.
Condition & Value
The candy dish appears to be in excellent vintage condition with no visible cracks or major chips in the photo. The Amberina color transition is vibrant and well-defined. However, the inner rims of the lid and the bowl's edge are prone to small 'flea bite' chips from use; if present, these would reduce the value by 20-30%.
