Overview
This is a high-performance 6-speaker array from the HKTS 8 series, featuring five SAT-TS8 satellite speakers and one voice-matched CEN-TS8 center channel. Finished in a signature metallic silver, these units were designed to deliver a seamless 'wall of sound' for home cinema enthusiasts during the peak of the DVD era.
Story
Released in the mid-2000s, this 6.1 channel configuration was a bold move beyond standard 5.1 surround sound. It added a dedicated 'surround back' channel to eliminate the 'audio hole' behind the listener. Harman Kardon's goal was to shrink the massive theater experience into a sleek, living-room-friendly footprint.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1953 by Sidney Harman and Bernard Kardon, the company is legendary for creating the world's first high-fidelity receiver. Sidney Harman was a true Renaissance man, later serving as the U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce and even purchasing Newsweek magazine at age 91.
Condition & Value
The speakers show visible scuffing and some staining on the fabric grilles, which is common for this silver finish. The cabinets appear structurally sound, but the cosmetic wear on the grilles slightly tempers the collector value. Cleaning the fabric could improve the presentation significantly.
