Overview
A charming domed ceramic cabochon brooch painted in classic Delft cobalt blue on a tin-glazed white ground. It depicts traditional Dutch sailing vessels skimming across choppy water, complete with an authentic 'Delfts Holland' underglaze mark on the reverse.
Story
Postwar travelers flocked to the Netherlands, returning with wearable Delft treasures celebrating the Dutch seafaring legacy.
Maker / Origin
The partial mark reads 'Delfts / Holland', a hallmark indicating genuine tin-glazed earthenware made in the Netherlands in the centuries-old tradition established in the city of Delft. Numerous regional pottery workshops produced these wearable ceramic souvenir plaques throughout the 20th century.
Condition & Value
Very good vintage condition with typical fine age crazing under the glossy glaze and visible glue residue securing the pin clasp, which does not affect wearability. Minor glaze crazing is standard and expected for vintage Dutch earthenware.
