Overview
A rare and iconic messenger-style bag crafted from Coach's legendary glove-tanned cowhide in a vibrant 'Lipstick Red'. This piece features the hallmark solid brass turnlock closure, adjustable strap with side buckles, and four protective brass feet on the base.
Story
In the 1970s, Coach was still a small family-run workshop in a Manhattan loft. This bag was born from a fascination with WWII military 'musette' bags, redesigned for the modern woman who needed a bag as tough as a soldier's but as elegant as a New York socialite's. The serial number 631-3936 is a unique 'random' registration from the era before Coach used standardized style codes.
Maker / Origin
Coach was founded in 1941, but its soul was forged by Miles Cahn, who was inspired by the durability of well-worn baseball gloves. Under the creative direction of Bonnie Cashin, the brand transformed industrial materials like brass toggles and thick cowhide into high-fashion staples that were meant to last a lifetime, not just a season.
Condition & Value
The leather appears supple and well-maintained with a rich color. There are minor surface scuffs consistent with age, and the brass hardware shows a light, desirable patina. The presence of all four brass feet is a major plus for preservation. Excellent condition for its age.
