Overview
A pair of hand-thrown stoneware mugs featuring detailed, sprig-molded clay medallions celebrating Renaissance festivals. One mug features a wizard dated 1992, while the other showcases a mythical griffin dated 1995, both finished in a rich, multi-toned drip glaze.
Story
Crafted in the 1990s, these mugs were handmade for the vibrant subculture of American Renaissance Faires. Each year featured a new mythical mascot, turning these functional vessels into highly sought-after tokens of summer revelry.
Maker / Origin
Clay in Mind is an Oregon-based studio pottery workshop founded by potters who specialized in durable, beautiful stoneware. They became legendary in the Renaissance Faire circuit for their high-quality, comfortable-to-hold mugs, recognizable by their distinctive thumb-rest handles and bottom maker's stamp.
Condition & Value
Both mugs appear to be in excellent vintage condition with no visible chips, cracks, or crazing in the glaze. The unglazed red clay bases show minor shelf wear consistent with light use, which is normal and does not negatively impact their value.
