This pin allowed a Belle Époque gentleman to wear a symbol of his country's democratic ideals right on his lapel.
Maker / Origin
Louis-Alexandre Bottée (1852–1940) was a premier French medalist and winner of the Grand Prix de Rome. He is best known for his allegorical figures that blended classical strength with the flowing, organic lines of the Art Nouveau movement. His signature 'B' mark is a hallmark of quality in the world of medallic art.
Condition & Value
The piece shows excellent detail with minimal wear to the high points of the relief. The dark toning is natural and desirable for silver of this age, as it provides contrast. The pin stem appears straight and functional. Excellent condition for a piece of this age. Value is driven by the attribution to Bottée and the material.
