Overview
This is an original cocktail-style arcade cabinet featuring the classic shooter game 'Carnival,' co-produced by Sega and Gremlin Industries. Housed in a woodgrain laminate table cabinet, this format allowed players to sit opposite each other in bars and lounges, with the screen flipping orientation for two-player action.
Story
In 1980, Sega teamed up with San Diego-based Gremlin to release Carnival, a digital shooting gallery. This cocktail table format was designed to blend seamlessly into upscale lounges, turning video games into a social, face-to-face dining experience.
Maker / Origin
Gremlin Industries, founded in 1971, was an American arcade game manufacturer that merged with Sega in 1979 to become Sega/Gremlin. This partnership was crucial in establishing Sega's footprint in the North American market, combining Japanese game design with American manufacturing and distribution before the Sega brand became a household name on its own.
Condition & Value
The cabinet exterior shows typical light wear, minor scuffs on the woodgrain laminate, and some aging on the metal coin door and control panel. The glass top appears intact, but the operational state of the internal CRT monitor and game board must be tested, as non-working electronics significantly reduce value.
