Overview
An elegant, stylized ceramic figurine of a gazelle or deer in a soft matte green glaze, featuring the iconic sweeping lines of Mid-Century Modern design. This piece showcases a beautiful biomorphic form, with one leg gracefully bent and the neck arched high, capturing the essence of speed and grace in a minimalist silhouette.
Story
In the post-WWII era, American homes shed heavy Victorian decor for sleek, optimistic designs. Haeger Potteries captured this shift perfectly, turning wild animals into fluid, abstract sculptures that brought nature indoors.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1871 by David H. Haeger as a brickyard, Haeger Potteries evolved into one of America's most celebrated art potteries. Under the artistic direction of Royal Arden Hickman in the late 1930s and 1940s, the 'Royal Haeger' line was introduced, famous for its highly stylized, fluid animal figurines and innovative glazes.
Condition & Value
The figurine appears to be in excellent vintage condition with no visible chips, cracks, or crazing. The original green and silver foil 'Haeger Made in U.S.A.' label is remarkably well-preserved on the base. Excellent condition like this, especially with the original label intact, helps secure the higher end of the value range.
