Overview
This is an original interwar Art Deco sautoir necklace featuring hand-formed lampwork glass barrel beads with applied trailing and inclusions, interspersed with colorful glass spacer rounds. Each bead is individually linked with hand-looped wire segments into a continuous, flapper-length loop designed to slip over the head.
Story
Born in Bohemia during the roaring 1920s, this flapper sautoir was made to swing to jazz. Every single art glass bead was individually hand-torched by skilled cottage artisans.
Maker / Origin
While unsigned as is typical for exported fashion jewelry of this era, this necklace was produced in the renowned glassmaking region of Bohemia (present-day Czech Republic), centered around Jablonec nad Nisou (Gablonz). During the 1920s and 1930s, thousands of skilled home-workshop glassblowers created imaginative beads for export to high-end fashion markets in Paris, London, and New York.
Condition & Value
The glass beads appear well-preserved with vibrant colors, glossy finish, and no obvious major breaks visible in the photos. The wire links show a natural aged dark patina consistent with interwar brass/alloy components. Excellent condition without chipped glass or modern repairs commands the higher end of the value range.
