Overview

This is a highly collectible vintage Fiesta 'Pyramid' style single candle holder, featuring a dramatic tiered Art Deco silhouette. Coated in a deep, rich cobalt blue glaze, its architectural steps evoke the iconic skyscraper designs of the machine age.

Story

Introduced in 1937, this design brought the soaring geometry of Manhattan skyscrapers straight to the American dinner table. It offered affordable luxury during the recovery years of the Great Depression.

Maker / Origin

The Homer Laughlin China Company, led by legendary art director Frederick Hurten Rhead, launched the Fiesta line in 1936. Rhead's genius was combining bold, solid-colored glazes with simple, clean Art Deco shapes, creating an instant design revolution that became the most collected tableware in U.S. history.

Condition & Value

The photos show the candle holder in excellent vintage condition with no visible chips, cracks, or flea bites on the delicate tiered edges. The glaze retains a high gloss, and the underside mark is crisp and clear. Excellent condition like this commands a premium.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
