Overview
A remarkably complete mid-century pyrography hobby kit featuring an 'Air Cooled' electric pen and original pre-printed basswood plaques. This set represents the golden age of American hobby kits, designed to teach children craftsmanship through the tactile (and slightly dangerous) art of wood burning.
Story
Post-war America saw a massive boom in DIY hobby kits as families moved to the suburbs. Rapaport Brothers turned a Victorian folk art into a modern 'electric wonder,' letting kids brand their own rocket ships and cowboys.
Maker / Origin
Based in Chicago, Rapaport Brothers were titans of the mid-century toy industry, famous for their metal casting sets and wood-burning kits. They specialized in 'productive play,' creating toys that resulted in a finished physical object the child could be proud of.
Condition & Value
The box shows some edge wear and tape marks, but the graphics remain vibrant. The internal components, especially the wood plaques and the electric pen, appear to be in excellent, near-unused condition. Condition of the paints is likely dried due to age.
