During the 1930s to 1950s, companies like Barclay Manufacturing and Manoil dominated American five-and-dime toy counters. They utilized slush casting—pouring molten zinc or lead alloy into two-part molds and pouring out the excess—to create lightweight, hollow toys quickly and cheaply.
