Overview
This is a magnificent, studio-crafted dining table featuring a thick, book-matched or single-slab live-edge walnut top with rich, undulating grain. The top is supported by two sculptural, polished natural tree root pedestals that have been meticulously debarked, stabilized, and finished to showcase their organic form.
Story
Crafted during the height of the studio craft movement, this table was commissioned for a library director's home. It brought the quiet majesty of the forest indoors, serving as a literal and figurative anchor for decades of intellectual conversation.
Maker / Origin
While the specific studio artisan remains unidentified, this piece is heavily inspired by the pioneering work of George Nakashima, who championed the 'soul of a tree' philosophy.
Condition & Value
The table appears to be in excellent vintage condition with a beautifully preserved, warm amber patina. The top shows minor surface wear consistent with gentle domestic use, and the root bases appear structurally sound and free of major drying cracks. Regular oiling or waxing has likely kept the wood well-hydrated.
