Overview
This is a beautifully painted porcelain rouleau (paper-roller) vase decorated in the classic Famille Verte palette. It features a detailed landscape panel depicting the famous Yueyang Tower alongside a meticulously hand-written transcription of Fan Zhongyan's legendary 11th-century literary masterpiece, 'Yueyang Lou Ji' (Memorial to the Yueyang Tower).
Story
Written in 1046, the text on this vase contains one of China's most famous political maxims: a leader must be the first to worry about the world's troubles and the last to enjoy its pleasures.
Maker / Origin
While unsigned by an individual artist, this vase was crafted by highly skilled decorators in Jingdezhen, the historic porcelain capital of China. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, private studios here experienced a renaissance, looking back to the masterworks of the Kangxi period for artistic inspiration.
Condition & Value
The vase appears to be in very good structural condition with no visible cracks, chips, or major hairline fractures. There is minor surface wear, typical iron spotting in the glaze, and some light rubbing to the overglaze enamels. Excellent preservation of the delicate black calligraphy.
