Overview
A charming example of California's 'Golden Age' of ceramics, featuring hand-applied porcelain roses and delicate forget-me-nots on a scalloped lidded box.
Story
In the late 1930s, a woman named Florence Ward began modeling clay in her Pasadena garage as a way to cope with the loss of her son. What started as a private, grief-stricken hobby blossomed into one of the most successful boutique ceramic studios in American history.
Maker / Origin
Florence Ward was a self-taught artist who became famous for her meticulous attention to detail, particularly her 'lace' figurines and floral applications.
Condition & Value
The applied flowers appear to be in excellent condition, which is rare as these petals are notoriously prone to chipping. There is some minor shelf wear on the unglazed foot rim and slight fading to the gold trim, but the overall presentation is very strong. Intact petals significantly preserve the value.

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.
