John and Violet Mackintosh founded their empire in 1890 with a single pastry shop. While John was the marketing 'Toffee King,' it was Violet who invented their signature recipe by blending brittle English butterscotch with soft American caramel.

The tin shows significant surface wear, scratches, and paint loss consistent with age, particularly on the lid's edges. This 'shabby chic' patina is common, though a mint-condition example would command the top of the price range. While the $19 price tag is a great find, similar tins in good condition typically fetch $35-$85.
