Overview
An elegant, shield-shaped wall mirror featuring a classic Venetian design with an ornate, multi-layered glass frame. The outer borders and decorative crest are adorned with delicate wheel-carved floral motifs, foliate scrolls, and scalloped edges, all secured with decorative glass-covered screws.
Story
In the 16th century, Venetian mirror makers on the island of Murano held a global monopoly so fiercely guarded that defecting artisans faced the death penalty. This shield-shaped design carries that legacy of secret luxury into the modern home.
Maker / Origin
While the exact workshop remains anonymous, this piece is crafted in the grand tradition of Murano's glass masters. For centuries, these artisans refined the art of 'specchiai' (mirror making), combining secret chemical formulas with exquisite wheel-engraving to create the most coveted reflective surfaces in Europe.
Condition & Value
The mirror appears to be in very good vintage condition with all glass panels, the crest, and the bottom apron intact. No major chips, cracks, or significant silver loss (desilverization) are visible in the photo. Having all original glass rosettes intact preserves its maximum value.
