Overview
A fine translucent hard-paste porcelain plate featuring a delicate neoclassical border of pink roses, blue forget-me-nots, and gilded scrollwork. The backstamp with the crown and 'Paul Müller Selb' identifies it as a product of one of the premier workshops in the world-famous Selb region.
Story
Before the World Wars, the town of Selb was the beating heart of European porcelain. This plate survived a century of history, likely traveling from a German kiln to an American dining room during the height of the Gilded Age.
Maker / Origin
Paul Müller established his factory in 1890, quickly gaining a reputation for high-quality 'white gold' that rivaled the neighboring Rosenthal factory. In 1917, the company was actually acquired by Rosenthal, making these early independent Müller pieces a distinct chapter in ceramic history.
Condition & Value
The plate shows minor wear to the gold gilt edge and some shelf wear on the foot rim. The central glaze appears bright with no visible crazing or chips. Excellent preservation for its age.
