Founded in 1884 by famous Portuguese cartoonist Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro, this factory blended political satire with traditional pottery. The frog logo honours Zé Povinho, a famous working-class folk hero character Bordallo created.

Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro was one of 19th-century Portugal's most influential cultural figures, renowned as a caricaturist and artist before establishing the Caldas da Rainha pottery works in 1884. His unique approach revitalized traditional Portuguese majolica with whimsical, nature-inspired reliefs like cabbage leaves, frogs, and fish.
