Overview
This is a striking mid-century carnival glass punch bowl set featuring a pedestal base and matching cups in a deep, iridescent amethyst-to-black colorway. The design showcases a highly textured geometric pattern with hobstars, diamonds, and a dramatic ruffled, sawtooth rim that catches the light beautifully.
Story
In the 1970s, American glassmakers revived the turn-of-the-century 'carnival glass' craze to bring affordable luxury to suburban dining rooms. This set was designed to be the glittering centerpiece of holiday parties and family reunions.
Maker / Origin
The Indiana Glass Company, established in Dunkirk, Indiana in 1907, was a giant of American utility and decorative glassware. They became famous for their depression glass and later their mid-century revival of iridescent carnival glass, which allowed everyday households to own pieces that mimicked expensive art glass.
Condition & Value
The glass appears to be in excellent condition with strong, vibrant iridescence and no obvious chips to the delicate sawtooth rim. Minor manufacturing bubbles or straw marks are common in this type of pressed glass and do not hurt the value, but any chips on the cup handles or rim would reduce value by 20-30%.
