Overview
A collection of vintage milk glass featuring the iconic 'Paneled Grape' pattern, characterized by high-relief clusters of fruit and architectural vertical panels. This opaque white glass was designed to mimic the look of expensive porcelain while offering the durability of pressed glass.
Story
In the 1940s, these pieces became the ultimate symbol of the American bridal table. Westmoreland's Grapeville factory produced this pattern for decades, turning a simple mineral—fluorite—into 'white gold' for the middle class.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1889, Westmoreland was one of the 'Big Three' milk glass producers in America. They were famous for their high-quality 'English Hobnail' and 'Paneled Grape' lines, maintaining a reputation for hand-finished details until the factory closed in 1984.
Condition & Value
The pieces appear to be in good vintage condition with no visible 'sick glass' (cloudiness). Milk glass is prone to small chips on the raised grape clusters; any such damage would reduce the value of individual pieces by 50%.
