Overview
This is a charming set of six vintage lithographed tin or aluminum drink coasters featuring classic mid-century cocktail recipes. Each coaster is designed with a scalloped, brightly colored rim (hot pink and vibrant green) framing a cream-colored center with retro typography and stylized illustrations for Martinis, Daiquiris, Old Fashioneds, and Bloody Marys.
Story
Post-WWII America saw a massive boom in home entertaining and the rise of the suburban backyard patio culture. These clever little coasters served as both functional furniture protectors and handy cheat-sheets for the host playing bartender. They capture the optimistic, playful spirit of mid-century cocktail hours.
Maker / Origin
While unsigned, these coasters are highly characteristic of mid-century American novelty manufacturers who specialized in lithographed metal housewares. Companies like Social Supper, Worcester Ware, and various Ohio-based metal lithographers produced millions of these colorful, affordable entertaining accessories to satisfy the post-war craving for casual, stylish home hosting.
Condition & Value
The coasters appear to be in very good vintage condition. The lithographed graphics are bright and legible, and the pink and green scalloped rims retain their vibrant color. There is minor wear consistent with age on the undersides, but they lack the heavy rusting or deep scratching often found on utilitarian metalware of this age.
