Overview

A fine porcelain decorative plate featuring the 'Diva II' design by the legendary Art Deco master Erté. This piece translates the artist's signature high-fashion elegance into a collectible format…

Story

Romain de Tirtoff, the artist known as Erté, was already a legend of the Jazz Age when he began collaborating on these porcelain editions late in his life.

Maker / Origin

Erté (1892–1990) was a Russian-born French artist who virtually defined the Art Deco movement through his illustrations for Harper's Bazaar and his revolutionary costume designs.

Condition & Value

The plate appears to be in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or wear to the delicate gold rim. The surface pigments remain vibrant and the metallic highlights are crisp. Maintaining this pristine state is essential, as even minor scratches to the central image can reduce the value by 50%.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
