Overview
This is a highly detailed die-cast semi-truck released by Matchbox Collectibles to celebrate the bicentennial of Jim Beam Bourbon (1795–1995). It features a sleek black Kenworth-style cab and a matching trailer adorned with patriotic American flag graphics and commemorative anniversary branding. Crucially, it is accompanied by its original shipping box and the authentic 1997 mail-order installment receipt.
Story
In 1995, Jim Beam celebrated two centuries of distilling with the cheeky slogan 'You're only two hundred once!' Matchbox captured this milestone in die-cast metal, selling it exclusively through mail-order subscription plans. This piece survived with its original 1997 purchase receipt, proving it was bought on a two-part installment plan for just $59.00.
Maker / Origin
Matchbox, originally founded by Lesney Products in London in 1953, revolutionized the toy industry with miniature die-cast vehicles. By the 1990s, under Tyco ownership, the 'Matchbox Collectibles' division was created to target adult collectors with premium, highly detailed, limited-run models sold directly through mail-order catalogs rather than traditional retail stores.
Condition & Value
The die-cast tractor-trailer appears to be in excellent, near-mint condition with no visible paint chips, scuffs, or missing chrome parts. The original white cardboard shipping box shows moderate wear, yellowing, and old tape residue. The original paper receipt is in excellent condition with only a single horizontal fold.
