In the late 1950s, post-war plastics like thermoset Lucite transformed haute couture into everyday glamour. These carved beads cleverly mimicked hand-cut rock crystal and ivory for a fraction of the weight.

While unsigned, necklaces of this specific construction were produced by premier American costume jewelry houses such as Miriam Haskell, Vendome, Coro, and Lisner, often sourcing specialized molded and carved art beads from West Germany and Japan.
