Overview

This is a charming group of four vintage Precious Moments bisque porcelain figurines, featuring 'The Lord Bless You and Keep You' wedding couple (1979), 'June' from the Calendar Girls series (1987), and two seasonal children representing January and February. Characterized by their signature teardrop-shaped eyes and soft pastel glazes, these pieces represent the peak era of American inspirational giftware.

Story

In 1974, artist Sam Butcher began drawing these teardrop-eyed children to express his Christian faith to family and friends. When Enesco's president spotted the designs at a trade show, he convinced Butcher to translate the flat illustrations into three-dimensional porcelain. By the 1980s, these quiet little figures had sparked one of the largest collecting phenomenons in modern history.

Maker / Origin

The Precious Moments brand was born from the partnership between illustrator Samuel J. Butcher and Enesco Imports. Butcher's deeply personal, faith-based drawings of children were sculpted into porcelain by master Japanese sculptor Yasuhei Fujioka.

Condition & Value

The figurines appear to be in good vintage condition with no visible chips, cracks, or major paint loss. Two of the figurines retain their original paper hangtags, though original boxes are not shown. The presence of original packaging generally increases collector interest.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
