Overview
A vibrant stone lithograph label featuring a genie in a yellow turban offering three oranges, set against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains and citrus groves. This iconic 'Miracle' brand design was produced by the Western Lithograph Co. of Los Angeles and represents the peak of California's 'Orange Empire' advertising.
Story
Copyrighted in 1928, this genie was a clever marketing 'miracle' designed to make East Coast buyers feel they were receiving a magical gift from the West. The three oranges he holds were a playful nod to the classic three wishes of a magic lamp.
Maker / Origin
The Bradford Brothers operated their packing house in Placentia from 1927 to 1978, while the artwork was executed by Western Lithograph Co. Western Litho was the premier printer of the era, employing anonymous commercial artists who defined the visual identity of California agriculture through rich, multi-layered color techniques.
Condition & Value
The label appears to be in excellent 'New Old Stock' condition with vibrant colors and sharp edges. It is currently protected in a plastic sleeve or frame, which has preserved it from the typical fading or tearing seen on labels actually used on crates. Excellent preservation like this is highly desirable for display.
