Overview
A genuine 1906-O Liberty Head ten-dollar gold coin (Eagle), composed of 90% pure gold and designed by Chief Engraver Christian Gobrecht. This coin represents the second-to-last year of the storied Liberty Head eagle series and bears the famous 'O' mintmark of the historic New Orleans Mint above the denomination.
Story
In 1906, President Theodore Roosevelt was already orchestrating the dramatic redesign of American coinage. Meanwhile, the New Orleans Mint struck this final run of $10 eagles before closing its coin presses forever in 1909.
Maker / Origin
Christian Gobrecht served as the third Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint from 1840 until his death in 1844. His enduring Coronet Liberty design proved so timeless that it remained on American gold coinage for nearly seven decades until Augustus Saint-Gaudens' redesigns in 1907.
Condition & Value
Appears to be in About Uncirculated to low Mint State condition (AU-55 to MS-61 range), exhibiting strong detail in Liberty's hair curls and the eagle's shield, with light handling marks in the fields. Proper preservation in a protective capsule prevents further contact wear.
