Overview
A striking teardrop-shaped pendant featuring a stylized, abstract bird motif rendered in vibrant enamel on a slightly domed copper base. The design showcases a beautiful interplay of earthy greens, warm oranges, and deep reds, accented by a hand-wound brass wire bail.
Story
Post-war artists rejected mass production to embrace raw, organic materials. This pendant was born from that studio craft movement, turning a simple sheet of copper into a wearable canvas of molten glass and abstract nature.
Maker / Origin
During the mid-20th century, independent studio jewelers like Matisse Renoir, Sascha Brastoff, and countless unnamed local artisans popularized enamel-on-copper jewelry. These makers worked in small workshops or home studios, experimenting with kiln-firing techniques to create affordable, wearable modern art.
Condition & Value
The pendant is in very good vintage condition with no major chips or cracks to the glass enamel on the front. The reverse side shows a typical speckled counter-enamel layer designed to prevent warping during firing. Excellent preservation of the enamel glaze commands a premium.
