Overview

This is an authentic vintage Omega Seamaster Cosmic Day-Date wristwatch featuring a rare textured 'sparkle' (stippled silver) dial and a monobloc 'unishell' stainless steel case. Engineered under reference 166036 (marked for Omega Tool 107 opening), it retains its original signed crown, Hippocampus caseback medallion, and matching integrated-style Omega steel bracelet.

Story

Introduced in the late 1960s, Omega's Cosmic line captured the futuristic space-age craze. The textured sparkle dial mimics stardust, while the solid unibody case ensured deep water resistance without a traditional removable back.

Maker / Origin

Founded by Louis Brandt in 1848 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, Omega grew into one of the world's most prestigious horological pioneers. Famous for accompanying NASA astronauts to the Moon and timing the Olympic Games, Omega represented the peak of Swiss precision engineering during the mechanical golden age.

Condition & Value

Very good vintage condition overall. The sparkle dial is remarkably clean with clear printing, and the case lines remain sharp. Minor superficial hairline scratches on the crystal, case flanks, and clasp consistent with gentle vintage wear. Excellent preservation with original bracelet commands solid market interest.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
