Overview
A pair of iconic 'Fire-King' milk glass bowls featuring the distinctive hooked 'J-handle' designed for easy carrying. These opaque white heat-resistant glass pieces represent the height of mid-century American kitchenware durability and style.
Story
Post-war American families needed dishes that could survive both a hot oven and a busy kitchen. These J-handle bowls became a breakfast and lunch staple, often given away in flour bags or at gas stations to build brand loyalty.
Maker / Origin
Anchor Hocking introduced the Fire-King line in 1942 to compete with Pyrex. Based in Ohio, they became world-famous for their 'milk glass'—a translucent, milky white glass that felt like fine china but had the strength of industrial equipment.
Condition & Value
The glass appears bright with a good luster. There are minor dark scuffs on the interior bottom of the bowl which may be metal marks from spoons; these often clean off. Excellent condition overall. Condition affects value as collectors seek high-gloss surfaces without 'dishwasher dulling'.
