This traditional Japanese hanging scroll (kakemono) depicts an elaborately armored warrior standing with a spear, executed in ink and color on silk. The lower right bears the signature 'Kenryū ga' (見龍画) with a red artist seal, housed in a fitted wooden storage box (tomobako) marked '純手工軸' (purely handmade scroll mounting).
Story
Centuries of samurai folklore come alive in this formidable figure, modeled after legendary military heroes of ancient East Asia. Painted on fine silk, such warrior scrolls were traditionally displayed during Boy's Day (Tango no Sekku) to inspire strength, honor, and courage.
Maker / Origin
Signed 'Kenryū' (見龍) with an accompanying red seal mark, the painter worked in the classic Japanese Nihonga or classical decorative tradition. The scroll also bears a workshop stamping indicating traditional handmade mounting craft.
Condition & Value
Good overall condition with minor age-appropriate toning and light spotting on the silk ground. The mounting and wooden box are well preserved, keeping the piece stable and presentation-ready.
