Overview
An elegant American Art Deco art pottery trumpet vase featuring a fluted, four-sided body that flares gracefully into subtle points at the rim. It is finished in a beautiful, warm peach-apricot glaze with a contrasting frothy, cream-colored drip glaze cascading down the upper neck.
Story
During the Great Depression, a Minnesota clay company pivoted from utilitarian stoneware jugs to vibrant, artistic home decor. This elegant vase brought affordable, high-design modernism directly into everyday American living rooms.
Maker / Origin
Red Wing Potteries began in the late 19th century producing functional stoneware like butter churns and canning crocks. In the 1930s, under the creative direction of designers like Belle Kogan and Charles Murphy, they successfully transitioned into art pottery, becoming famous for their experimental glazes and organic, sculptural shapes.
Condition & Value
The vase appears to have a small dark spot or minor glaze flake on the upper rim edge, and some light surface wear consistent with age. The bottom is currently obscured by a thrift store price sticker. No major cracks or structural damage are visible. Minor imperfections reduce the value by about 20%.
