Overview
This is a beautiful Korean brassware set, traditionally known as Bangjja Yugi, consisting of a highly polished small bowl and a textured, embossed underplate. The plate features charming relief depictions of traditional Korean life and folklore, including a horse rider, mountains, birds carrying letters, and a traditional pavilion.
Story
Crafted in South Korea, this set carries on a brass-making legacy dating back to the Bronze Age. The embossed scenes on the plate depict ancient symbols of good fortune, communication, and natural harmony.
Maker / Origin
While the specific workshop is unidentified, this set is made in the tradition of Korean Yugi (brassware) artisans. The Gyeonggi Province region of Korea is particularly famous for preserving this highly specialized, government-protected intangible cultural heritage.
Condition & Value
The set is in very good vintage condition with a lovely warm patina on the plate and a bright, reflective interior on the bowl. Minor surface scratches and light oxidation are present, which is normal for vintage brass and does not significantly hurt the value.
