Overview
An authentic Mission-style quarter-sawn oak book rack featuring an angled top trough for displaying active reading alongside lower storage shelves. Retains its original paper maker's decal featuring the craftsman logo and slogan 'Art in the Home'.
Story
In the early 1900s, American homes embraced functional, hand-inspired woodcraft as a rejection of industrial mass production. Sheboygan woodworkers designed this piece to keep your current reading material angled perfectly at eye level while resting beside an armchair.
Maker / Origin
The Lakeside Craft Shops operated in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, producing high-quality Arts & Crafts wooden novelties, book troughs, plant stands, and cedar chests. Their distinctive logo depicted a traditional cabinetmaker working at a bench with a hand plane, emphasizing artisan pride.
Condition & Value
Shows moderate finish wear, surface scuffs, and small paint drips or light stains on the wooden shelves. Crucially, the original paper manufacturer's label remains intact on the underside. Finish wear reduces value slightly, but original condition is preferred over a harsh refinish.
