Overview
A stunning 11-piece mid-century modern dessert or snack set featuring one large rectangular serving platter and ten matching square plates. Crafted in Georges Briard's signature bent glass, the set is adorned with the celestial 'Celeste' pattern in brilliant 22-karat gold and black screen-printed graphics.
Story
During the post-war American hosting boom, Jascha Brojdo adopted the French-sounding pseudonym 'Georges Briard' to market his designs. This celestial pattern captured the space-age optimism of the 1960s, turning everyday cocktail parties into cosmic celebrations.
Maker / Origin
Born in Ukraine, Jascha Brojdo studied at the Art Institute of Chicago before serving in WWII. Under his pen name Georges Briard, he became a pioneer of mid-century barware and giftware, winning the prestigious Rene Rosenthal Outstanding Designer Award in 1970 for his ability to merge high art with commercial appeal.
Condition & Value
The photos show the gold and black silk-screening to be in remarkably bright, intact condition with very little of the typical rubbing or wear. No visible chips or cracks are apparent on the bent glass edges. Excellent preservation of the gold leaf significantly maintains the set's value.
