Overview
A standard-issue United States Washington quarter dated 1967. This coin represents the early years of the copper-nickel clad composition introduced to replace silver coinage in the United States.
Story
In 1965, a massive silver shortage forced the US Mint to eliminate silver from dimes and quarters. To prevent hoarding, the Mint removed mint marks from 1965 to 1967, making this coin a silent witness to a major economic transition.
Maker / Origin
The obverse features the classic portrait of George Washington designed by sculptor John Flanagan, which was first introduced in 1932 to celebrate the bicentennial of Washington's birth. Flanagan's design was based on a famous 1785 bust by French sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon.
Condition & Value
The coin shows significant wear, flattening of the fine details in Washington's hair, and minor surface scratches consistent with decades of circulation. This level of wear keeps its value at the standard face value.
