Overview
A charming pair of original, small-format architectural etchings depicting historic American homes. Each piece features a hand-signed pencil signature in the lower margin and shows the characteristic plate impression of traditional intaglio printmaking.
Story
In the early 20th century, American printmakers traveled historic backroads to capture vanishing colonial architecture. These intimate etchings served as romantic keepsakes of a simpler, pre-industrial era. Each print carries the physical imprint of the hand-cranked press that squeezed the paper into the inked copper plate.
Maker / Origin
Charles H. Snow was an active American etcher and illustrator known for his detailed, nostalgic renderings of historic buildings, streetscapes, and rural landscapes. Working in the tradition of the American Etching Revival, he focused on capturing the texture of weathered wood, stone, and leafy foliage.
Condition & Value
The prints appear to be in good condition with clear impressions, but there is visible mat burn and yellowing/toning to the paper margins and the mats themselves, likely from non-archival backing materials. Acid-free reframing is highly recommended to prevent further deterioration.
