Overview
An exquisite Japanese blue and white porcelain plate featuring a serene, stylized mountain landscape with thatched-roof cottages. The reverse is beautifully decorated with a classic underglaze blue floral scroll and a double-ring foot rim, characteristic of high-quality Nabeshima-style wares.
Story
Created during the isolationist Edo period, this plate depicts a romanticized mountain retreat. The tiny figures walking the winding path represent a classic East Asian literary theme of escaping the busy world for a life of quiet contemplation.
Maker / Origin
While originally produced exclusively as presentation ware for the ruling Shogun by the Nabeshima clan's private kilns, by the late Edo period, skilled independent Arita workshops began producing these highly refined, poetic designs for wealthy merchants and regional elites.
Condition & Value
Consistent with the owner's description of '完品' (perfect condition). The glaze remains incredibly glossy with no visible hairline cracks, chips, or significant surface scratches. The foot rim shows minor, natural wear consistent with age.
